Local elected officials – Culver City Council member Freddy Puza and Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell were both at the 16th Annual Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Political Leadership Awards. On August 13, 2023, at the Norma Hertzog Community Center in Costa Mesa, the afternoon ceremony was about offering applause to local leaders for their work on behalf of the environment.
Puza stated “It was an honor and privilege to present L.A. Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell with an outstanding public service award at [this event.]” Mitchell has been a powerful presence in the move to end oil drilling in Los Angeles County, with a legal strategy modeled on the Culver City’s ordinance.
Other honorees included Representative Judy Chum, Huntington Beach City Council member Dan Kalmick, and the Organ County Environmental Justice Education Fund.
