Upgraded Higuera Street Bridge is Open, Bike Path Gets New Ramp

Completing an infrastructure upgrade that was begun last year, the Higuera Street Bridge, a critical juncture in the Hayden District, is once again open for traffic.

The improvements include additional northbound travel lane (two in each direction) a new bike lanes with lane line buffers, new entrance bike ramp connection to Ballona Creek Bike Path, wider sidewalks, traffic signal upgrades at Jefferson Blvd., new pavement and striping and new retaining walls, landscaping and irrigation.

The work, which was begun in September of 2022 was originally scheduled to be completed last December. The length of delays were mostly owing to the weather, with this last winter’s record breaking storms keeping things too wet to work on. The project was funded by multiple grants, from the Federal Highway Bridget Program grant, the Proposition 84 grant from the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, the Metro Call for Projects grant and local Culver City grant matches, including from Gas Tax, Measure R, and general funds.
