Amazon to Revive Former ArcLight Theaters Downtown for Screenings

The movie theater multiplex in the downtown Culver city plaza has a checkered past, but maybe a bright future. The former Pacific Theaters that became ArcLight Theaters is now in process to become Amazon Theaters. Amazon Studios, located almost next door, signed a 10 year contract in July of 2022 to take on the property. As of yet, there is no announcement of an official opening date for the six screen multiplex, movies are playing and tickets are being sold under a ‘soft open’ format.

The shuttered ArcLight Cinemas, which closed with COVID and did not re-open after the pandemic, covers about 41,000 square feet by the Lion Fountain. The theater is only a few steps away from Culver Studios, where Amazon now occupies more than 530,000 square feet of production and office space.

Sources from Amazon say that the company will be investing as much as one billion dollars annually to entice theater goers back to big screens.
