Council to Consider New Regulations for Gun Sales

The first action item n the agenda for the Culver City Council meeting on Nov. 14, 2022 will be an ordinance to “adopt licensing and security requirements for retail establishments selling firearms and ammunition.” The concerns in regard to both mass shootings and a perceived rise in crime have brought attention to the number of local businesses selling guns, and the city has prepared an update of the law.

Updating the law was considered initially by the council last August, the current law states that retailers selling guns or ammunition have a conditional use permit from the Culver City Police Department. This update would require that such businesses also have a regulatory permit issued by the CCPD.
