LACCD Board Gets New Vice Chancellor – Teyanna Williams

The Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees recently appointed Teyanna L. Williams as the new LACCD Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. Ms. Williams’ tenure will begin on November 21.
“We are thrilled to welcome Teyanna L. Williams to the LACCD family as the newest addition to our executive leadership team,” said LACCD Chancellor Dr. Francisco Rodriguez. “As an attorney committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, her high-caliber experience will bring our human resources division to the next level. Having worked with three of the largest public employers in California, I look forward to her perspective and expertise with leadership and representation of management.”

Since April of this year, Williams served as the Acting Deputy Chief of the Office of Civil Rights, Racial Equity and Inclusion at Los Angeles Metro. In this role, she advised Metro on how to maintain a diverse, equitable and accessible environment that values its employees and patrons and is free from discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

“Experience has taught me the necessity of strategic thinking and building strong relationships with all departments at an organization,” adds Williams. “I believe in developing networks with elected officials, administrators, and frontline staff to create and implement practical win-win solutions. I look forward to returning to higher education and contributing to the advancement of this diverse and growing district.”

Williams also worked on the development of policies and procedures to manage the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of a mandatory vaccine program, and the return to in-person work policies, while continuing to provide quality and on-time public transportation throughout LA County.

Before her time at Metro, she worked at Glendale Community College District as their Associate Vice President, Human Resources; Los Angeles Unified School District as the Assistant Director, Labor Relations; California State University Office of the Chancellor as a Senior Labor & Employee Relations Manager, and as an Industrial Relations Attorney for the State of California.

In Williams’ new role, she will work on worker’s compensation matters, arbitrations, labor relations, collective bargaining negotiations, human resources, and policy development on behalf of students, faculty, staff, and employees. She will provide strategic counsel to management for issues in both day-to-day operations and in the development of HR-related policies, and create strategies for bargaining and working with the agency’s labor unions.

“With this strategic hire, the Board of Trustees and I are very pleased to have someone as accomplished as Teyanna Williams to ensure that high caliber and diverse candidates continue to be recruited for employment at the District,” said LACCD Board of Trustees President Gabriel Buelna. “We believe that LACCD and all our nine colleges can remain a top employer of choice as we continue to pioneering programs and policies to provide the district an equitable learning experience for all.”

Williams began her higher education with a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She received her Juris Doctor of Law from Arizona State University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She also received a Labor Relations Academy Masters Certification (CLRM) from the California Public Employers Labor Relations Association and Title IX Investigator Certification from Association of Title IX Administrators.
