“Pursuant to the City Charter of the City of Culver City and Section 10225 of the Elections Code (E.C.) of the State of California, “if nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the city are not filed by or on the 88th day before the election, during normal business hours, as posted, the voters shall have until the 83rd day before the election during normal business hours, as posted, to nominate candidates other than the person who was the incumbent on the 88th day, for that incumbent’s elective office.”

While Mayor Daniel Lee is clear that he is not seeking re-election, this ordinance requires that the filing period be extended if a sitting council member has not yet filed.

“NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the filing period for candidates, other than incumbent candidates for the office of Councilmember in the City of Culver City has been extended. Interested residents must file nomination papers for the General Municipal Election by the new deadline, Wednesday, August 17, 2022, during normal business hours (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM).”

Those interested in running for City of Culver City City Council must be:

A Culver City Resident
A Lawfully Registered Voter of Culver City for the 30 days immediately preceding the filing of their nomination papers.
The filing period was extended beyond the initial August 11, 2022 deadline, because an incumbent did not file a nomination petition. The filing period for incumbents is now closed.

Any Culver City resident age 18 or older who is eligible to hold office and who is registered to vote at the time nomination papers are issued can file a nomination petition.

Furthermore, the Public Examination Period is extended and shall be adjusted to August 18, 2022 through August 29, 2022 (E.C. § 13313) Closed on August 12 and August 26, 2022.
