Summer Symphony to Screen “The General” with New Score by Safan

The Marina del Rey Summer Symphony returns to Burton Chace Park for another Symphonic Thursday. The major event of the evening will be a screening Buster Keaton’s classic silent movie, “The General,” with a brand new orchestral score by Craig Safan. Safan’s work will be familiar to many in our audience as he also scored our prior screenings of “Phantom of the Opera” (2019) and “The Kid” (2017).

The General was Inspired by the Great Locomotive Chase, a true story of an event that occurred during the American Civil War.

The evening will start with an American Salute, followed by a tribute to Ukraine including “Odesa” written by Safan in response to current events. Then we will hear film music favorites ranging from Sound of Music to West Side Story and, of course, some John Williams in honor of his 90th birthday.

Bring your picnic (or visit the food truck), a blanket, and a jacket and join us this Thursday for another special evening by the water in Burton Chace Park. Program begins at 7 pm.
