Media Park Redesign to Come Before City Council @ March 28 Meeting

With one more virtual meeting tonight, March 28, 2022, the Culver City Council will consider a new design for Media Park, the local site that sits between the end of Culver Boulevard and Venice Boulevard, home to the Ivy Substation Theatre and many historic trees.

The new design will be looking at the results of a survey, where 89% of those who responded felt there was a need for better lighting, and 63% have attended events there and are interested in maintaining the park as a space for art and performance. The question of closing Canfield Avenue, the small street connecting Culver and Venice at the southwest end of the park, in order to facilitate performances will also be considered.

The proposal will include a new ‘event space’ backing towards Venice Boulevard in front of the Ivy Substation Theatre.

The Theater is currently under long-term lease to the Actors’ Gang, and they have used the park for public performances in the summer. The redesign would give a better designated event space for more ease of public use.

Construction cost, including the elimination of the current parking on site, are estimated at $5, 365,172.

The proposal will be Action Item A-2 on the agenda.
