Exposed? Get Tested

Most tests for the new strain of coronavirus involve taking a swab sample for analysis

The Los Angeles County Home Test Collection program is offering free, at-home COVID nasal swab test kit via mail to all LA county residents who have COVID-19 symptoms or think they were exposed.

The number of COVID cases in LA County has risen more than 200% in the past two weeks, and while some variants seem to be less fatal, it is not something to take chances with. The long term effects of COVID are still only beginning to be studied, and the immediate effect of the illness range from unpleasant to unspeakable.

Officials reported 23,553 new cases for Saturday, January 1, 2022 , and another 21,200 positive tests on Jan. 2, after a one-day record of 27,091 new infections were reported on December 31, 2021.

More than 1 in 5 tests are coming back positive, most people are spreading COVID one to two days before the onset of symptoms. Wearing a well-fitting mask and getting vaccinated with a booster are shot are the best way to stay safe.

You also need to wait 5 to 7 days after exposure to be tested for most accurate results.
