The application for candidates for Culver City Unified School District’s Superintendent closed on July 5. Forty-seven (47) completed applications were submitted. The forty-seven candidates who completed the application process were evaluated and screened by Ray & Associates based on administrative experience, good academic background and on the qualities and criteria determined by the community and the Board. Each file was also reviewed for other special experience.
The screening protocol by Ray and Associates included verifying for all tangible criteria available within application materials such as:
Type of experience including grade levels served and size of districts
Site and district level administrative experience
Longevity in positions
Certification eligibility in state of position
Accomplished or pending education degrees and alignment to district criteria
Setting of service (urban, suburban, rural)
Languages other than English spoken
Alignment of the application to the resume along with additional review of accomplishments/awards/recognitions which often net alignment to district qualities.
Evidence in letters of reference submitted (in this case, CCUSD’s qualities and accomplishments aligned to the feedback from the Board and constituency groups)
Media footprint by conducting searches into social media and Internet footprint found on each candidate. (An extensive background check is conducted through a contracted agency for candidates who go into the final round of the search).
Evaluation of ALL completed applications by each of the Ray & Associates consultants assigned to the project to determine alignment to district needs, calibration of the work by each of the consultants, and categorization/identification of candidates to move forward for Board review.
The screening process conducted by Ray and Associates produced eleven (11) candidates that were presented to the Board on July 19. The Board was highly impressed by the caliber of the candidates brought forth by the firm.
The Board reviewed each of the eleven candidate’s files which included the completed application document, resume, cover letter, letters of references, recorded videos of each candidate responding to three interview questions, and other relevant documents. The members of Ray and Associates interviewed each candidate and shared the details of their interviews as well. The Board then selected six candidates to continue in the process. The Board will interview these six candidates for first round interviews to take place on July 27. The Board will further reduce the candidate pool after the first round interviews and move those candidates to stakeholder interviews. Stakeholder interviews will be conducted on July 29 and recorded. The recordings will be available on our website for members of the community to view and to submit an impressions survey. This data will be gathered by the search firm and given to the Board to review prior to final interviews.
