CCHS Debaters to Head to California High School Speech Association State Championships

Members of the Culver City High School Speech and Debate Team are off to the California High School Speech Association State Championships. On March 20, the team of Ada Meighan-Thiel and Mikayla Goldsmith qualified to the state championships in Parliamentary Debate.

The following week on March 27, Delina Melaku, Devin Hayden and Rou Han Wang made it to the final round in Congressional Debate. Delina earned the first alternate spot in Congressional Debate and the second alternate spot in Presiding Officer, while Devin earned fourth alternate.

Alternates do often move up. In fact, in Dramatic Interpretation CCHS’s Seema Malam, who was first alternate, will now competing at the state level. Stay tuned to see what happens with the other alternates!

All told, advancing to the California High School Speech Association State Championships, which will be held virtually from April 19-25, are:

Sabah Nabiha in Extemporaneous Speaking
Seema Malam in Dramatic Interpretation
Ada Meighan-Thiel in Original Advocacy
Delina Melaku in Poetry

Debate:
