Thursday March 11, 2021 was a milestone for Sydney Kamlager, who began the day as a member of the State Assembly, and ended it as a State Senator. Her runaway victory in the special election garnered more than 67% of the vote. While the ceremony was only attended by a small number of people due to COVID, the congratulations poured in online.
Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins offered ” I was pleased to swear in our newest Senator, Sydney Kamlager. [She is] a dedicated public servant who has long fought for criminal justice reform, civil rights, women’s rights, and the planet. I look forward to the addition of her passionate voice on the Senate floor.”
Kamlager posted “Today was my last day as Assemblymember for AD54. It’s been an incredible 2 years filled with hard work, & most importantly, progress for CA. Thank you to my Assembly colleagues for welcoming me way back when. For helping me get to work on behalf of my constituents & our state. As I move forward to the Senate, I take with me the valuable perspectives of my Assembly colleagues & their districts. And I promise to continue to be a partner in equity, fairness, discussion, & debate, without judgement or polarization, for all Californians.”
