CCEF to Use Bequest for Support of School Libraries with an Eye to Diversity

The Culver City Education Foundation is proud to announce a grant of $50,000 to provide culturally relevant and inclusive titles to all elementary, middle and high school libraries. This gift is made possible thanks to a generous bequest for library support by Darlene Bilkiss, a beloved kindergarten teacher at Farragut for 38 years.

The project started from efforts to improve the library at El Rincon Elementary School where parents and school administrators noticed that the books and resources in the library did not align with the diversity and inclusion that was representative of the school.

In line with their mission of Every Student. Every School. Every Day., CCEF pledged funding to expand this initiative to include resources for every CCUSD school site.

CCEF is honored to support this important goal and ensure all school libraries have books and resources that represent the rich diversity across our campuses and our community.
