El Rincon, CCMS and CCHS Get Top Marks in Innovate Public Schools Report

Congratulations to El Rincon Elementary School, Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School for earning top rankings in the Innovate Public Schools annual report for their efforts in supporting low-income African-American students and for beating the 2018-19 statewide average for all students in math and English language arts proficiency and college readiness.

Innovate Public Schools, in partnership with the USC Sol Price Center for Social Innovation and the USC Rossier Center on Education Policy, Equity and Governance, recently issued its annual Top Public Schools report that celebrates 278 schools in Los Angeles County closing the opportunity gap for low-income African American and Latino students.

El Rincon finished first among all the schools in the county in both percentage of of low-income African-American students reaching English proficiency (62%) and percentage of of low-income African-American students reaching math proficiency (69%). Culver City Middle School finished third among all the schools in the county in percentage of of low-income African-American students reaching English proficiency (56%). Culver City High School finished fourth among all the schools in the county in both percentage of of low-income African-American students reaching UC/CSU eligibility (60%) and percentage of of low-income African-American students reaching English proficiency (75%).

Innovate Public Schools and USC identified El Rincon as a Top Public School – those that are beating the statewide average in one or more factors including math and reading scores, college eligibility, and suspension rates. To qualify for the list, schools must also serve a representative proportion of low-income African-American or Latino students. The report uses the statewide enrollment averages as minimum baselines, meaning that schools must have at least 43% low-income Latino or 4% low-income African American students enrolled in order to be considered.
