Dear Editor,
Just after I put my shamrock up in the front window and went outside to take a photo of it, I heard a man with an Irish accent walking nearby with two young children. I shouted, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” and told them that some people would be putting up shamrocks for children to find today, inviting them to come back and have a look.
The dad seemed weary, saying, “Oh, is that today?” but the little ones were delighted and skipped over, pointing and giggling. Made my day!
I’m sorry I didn’t have the presence of mind to ask to take their photo standing by the shamrock, but it was nice to connect with neighbors from the next street over I hadn’t met before.
