Students and Songs; Musical Education at CCUSD is There for the Asking

With the new school year comes multiple opportunities for students to participate in both vocal and instrumental music lessons from K-12th grades. All music and instrumental offerings are part of CCUSD’s expanding arts education programming.

In elementary school, TK/K students receive a full year of vocal instruction from a district music teacher. In first and second grade, students receive half a year. And a long-time district partner, the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO), works with K – second graders.

CCUSD is proud to offer a high-quality instrumental music program to all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5. All third-grade students participate in a weekly 30-minute Recorder program. Every child receives their own recorder to play and keep, courtesy of the Culver City Education Foundation (CCEF).

Students in Grades 4 and 5 are offered weekly 30-minute instruction on the following instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, cornet, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello and string bass. All instrumental music is taught by Andy Pascoe, with a district-wide culmination concert at Robert Frost Auditorium in the spring.

For more information about the elementary instrumental program, including access to instruments, please attend one of the following “Music Back to School Nights:”
