On Aug. 24th, 2019 from 3 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Rce Relay, a race relations discussion circle will be meeting at The Peace Center, 3916 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City 90230 followed by a potluck and a film screening of Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution.
Before Medicare, disparities in access to hospital care were dramatic. Less than ½ the nation’s hospitals served black and white patients equally, and in the South. One third of hospitals would not admit African-Americans – even for emergencies.
Power to Heal illustrates how Movement leaders and grass-roots volunteers powerfully pressed and worked w/the federal government to achieve justice and fairness for all Americans.
Children 13 years and older are welcome to attend the film.
Discussion w/ Maureen Cruise, RN, and Dir. & Co Chair of Health Care for All – L.A. Chapter will follow the screening.
