Plunge Will Remain Closed for Maintenance

The Plunge is closed, and will be for several more weeks. At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 24, Aquatics staff at the Culver City Pool (The Plunge) discovered broken glass shattered on the pool deck and in the pool.

The City of Culver City has confirmed that, weather permitting, the Culver City Municipal Pool (The Plunge) is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 11.

The Plunge was unexpectedly closed on Sunday, February 24, when Aquatics staff discovered broken glass shattered on the pool deck and in the pool. Out of an abundance of caution, the City determined The Plunge must be closed for cleaning and maintenance. While this emergency situation is unfortunate and the closure unscheduled, staff is working diligently to minimize the impact on the community.

Over the next two weeks, staff will both drain and clean the pool and make as many repairs to the pool and locker rooms as possible. Staff has worked exceedingly hard to reschedule the locker room project (initially scheduled for March 18 through April 7) during the next two weeks, minimizing the amount of time The Plunge is closed. Additionally, there will be a second closure of approximately three days to replace the pool pump and motor. These dates are to be determined, though they will occur between March 18 and April 7.

At this time, the City does not have information that indicates whether Sunday’s incident was a malicious act/vandalism.

We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as city staff work to reopen The Plunge
