Art Opening at WLA College Showcases Nagamatsu Donations

unnamed-1A collection of world class art was offered to the public, and specifically to the students at West Los Angles College on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the President’s Special Opening event. The college’s Artist-in-Residence, Molly Barnes was there as well as WLA College President Dr. Jim Limbuagh. Donors Ernie and Elaine Nagamatsu offered their satisfaction, saying “The installation of the art pieces was “spot on” perfect and we felt that the group of art that we donated was the perfect match for WLA College and for the community at large.”

Dr. Nagamatsu has donated to many community colleges, and noted that “This has been a journey, and some of the art collected is very meaningful  – such as the Mas Kanimitsu (he was part of the NYC School and he was a friend of Jackson Pollack) for he was my art instructor at Otis Art Institute … and we became very good friends. I attended East Los Angeles College and I am indebted to Community Colleges and understand the vital role they play for the community. Although we have donated art to UC Riverside… we have donated to ELA College, Los Angeles City College, and West Los Angeles College.”

The collection is on view at the Fine Arts Gallery at West Los Angeles College.
