At the emergency school board meeting this morning, the Board of Education appointed Leslie Lockhart, the current Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, as the Interim Superintendent while the search begins to fill the post.
Lockhart has a long history with the district as well as children currently enrolled in the schools. She was the Principal of El Rincon, and the Assistant Principal at the High School before moving to Irving Place to take on Human Resources. Lockhart has been with the district 19 years all told, and her husband is a teacher at Culver Park Continuation High School.
Board President Kathy Paspalis noted “Leslie is just the person we need to steady the ship while we are moving forward to run a search and appoint a permanent superintendent.” It was also offered that her contract allows her to apply for the post should she want to do so.
In accepting the appointment, Lockhart stated “Thank you for your vote of confidence. I have been in Culver City for a long time, and I know that as parents, you are fiercely dedicated to your children. I’m not going to want anything for your kids that I wouldn’t want for my own.”
