With a source at City Hall saying that 1900 ballots were already received from the ‘vote by mail’ campaign as of this morning, and another 300 arrived today, it looks as if our City Council Election has already achieved it’s first goal – good voter turnout. Ok, better than School Board turnout.
According to City Clerk Martin Cole “Tonight’s results are subject to change. If this is a close election, it may be tomorrow or even longer before we have final results.”
With the day’s results in, Meghan Sahli- Wells is in 1st, Thomas Small is 2nd and Göran Eriksson is in 3rd. There are still hundreds of ballots to be counted, and the election will be certified by the city clerk when that has been completed.

The preliminary returns indicate that many more voters than usual have spoken, and it is the beginning of the end of the Chamber of Commerce’s stranglehold on the City Council. With all the money Eriksson and the Chamber’s PAC evidently spent on his campaign, Eriksson only placed # 3. Hopefully, in two years, Eriksson will be the only remaining Chamber voice on the City Council. Power to the people!
