Dear Editor – Kent Brings Wisdom

Light-bulb-0003-300x198It is refreshing to learn that we in Culver City are blessed to have Dr Kelly Kent, an Educational Neuroscientist, willing to serve as a School Board member.

As a seasoned educator and psychotherapist for the past 30 years, I’ve witnessed the benefits my clients enjoy from applied neuroscience. We can too! How? Last year we voted to spend over $200 million (Bond + interest) to improve our schools. With Dr Kent on board, we will be able to maximize the benefits of this investment with the needed expertise she will bring to the decision making processes.

In vetting Dr Kent, I learned she earned her doctorate at USC, and then was hired to do Postdoctoral Research at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, where she also served as Public Relations Chair of the Postdoctoral Association. The impressive range of knowledge Dr Kent brings to our Culver City School Board as an Educational Neuroscientist will enhance both our students’ and our quality of life.

Years ago introducing Japanese and Spanish made our School District stand out. Today applied neuroscience is the norm to stay on the cutting edge in education. Having the wisdom Dr Kent brings to our Schools will save us taxpayers thousands of dollars in consultant fees as CCUSD strives to implement educational best practices that engage each student’s learning style.
Among Best School Districts in California, we are currently ranked 56th – surpassed by El Segundo and South Pasadena among others. (https://k12.niche.com/rankings/public-school-districts/best-overall/s/california/ )
I would like our school district to be among the top 20! Wouldn’t you?

Let’s all get on board. Let’s maximize the use of the taxes we’re paying. With your vote for Dr Kelly Kent, let’s work together to make our school district, which is among the better ones, be among the BEST!
