6b79f853-243a-4126-91bd-cb402396ffb9Black Talkies On Parade presents Soul Power! a film which documents the historic soul music concert staged in Kinshasa, Zaire in 1974 to accompany the Muhammad Ali-George Foreman “Rumble in the Jungle” boxing match. Featuring performances from iconic musicians including James Brown, Celia Cruz, Miriam Makeba and B.B. King, Soul Power! explodes with memorable music. This exhilarating slice of history is comprised of behind-the-scenes documentary clips and archival footage of the musicians as many express their views about Black Power and their role in it. Unsurprisingly Muhammad Ali uses his captivating screen presence before the fight not only to speak about imperialism, but to relay how important it is for the movement that he wins the epic match. Your afternoon host will be Lloyd Clayton, Executive Director and Les Wills, Film Historian who will lead a discussion and Q&A.
