Generosity is spelled “LYFE,” if the Culver City Education Foundation has anything to say about it! From now through New Year’s Day LYFE (Love Your Food Everyday) Kitchen in downtown Culver City will donate 10% of their net profits from every purchase that references CCEF. This includes breakfasts, lunches, dinners, online orders, catering, and/or a holiday party in their great party room – it all counts. Just mention CCEF and the Culver City Education Foundation will receive 10% of the proceeds. LYFE (and its wonderful stroll-by herb garden) is located at 9540 Washington Blvd.

The Board of Directors of the Culver City Sister City Committee is cordially inviting you to their Holiday Dinner, set for Wednesday, December 4 at the Del Rey Yacht Club. (No-host) cocktail time is 6:00 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. The Yacht Club is located at13900 Palawan Way in Marina Del Rey. The menu sounds terrific: Caesar Salad and Grilled Salmon w/ rice pilaf and fresh vegetables, or Horseradish crusted Tri Tip w/potatoes au gratin and vegetables, or Vegetarian pasta and vegetables, with Chocolate Cream Puffs with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The cost is $25.00 by check, $26.50 by credit card per person. It’s this Saturday night, November 16th! What, you ask? The Culver City Rotary Club’s venerable 10k Raffle, accompanied by the (newer) Casino Night. It all takes place at the Culver City Senior Center, 4095 Overland Avenue. Only 250 tickets are sold, and the various cash prizes leading up to the grand prize are pretty outstanding. Dinner price is $25.00 per person, with an additional fee to hit the casino tables. Funds raised through raffle donations are used to support Rotary’s community youth programs. “Genealogy Garage” – we love it! Our own Julie Lugo Cerra, whose credentials are too numerous to list here, will be leading a workshop at the Los Angeles Central Library, 630 W. 5th Street’s History & Genealogy Department on Lower Level 4 this Saturday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. She’ll be sharing methods of family history research geared honing the skills of both the newcomer and the experienced researcher. To RSVP, call Central Library Info at (213) 228-7000 and ask for the History and Genealogy Dept. Tell them you are making a reservation for the “Genealogy Garage” workshop on November 16. Leave your name and an e-mail address or phone number so you can be notified in case the workshop is cancelled. The workshop is designed to be interactive, so bring your questions as well as pedigree charts, family group sheets, pens/pencils, paper, and/or your laptop computer. At the end of each workshop there will be a tour of the Genealogy dept. conducted by Charlotte Bocage. Stay and they will help you research afterward. Genealogy Garage workshops are limited to only12 – that’s twelve attendees, so RSVP – and hurry!

The community is invited to Grace Lutheran Church this Friday, November 15 & Saturday, November 16 at 8:00 p.m. to enjoy a One-Man-Concert “IF I SING,”A Musical Comedy evening featuring songs about singing, gratitude, desserts and animals with performer Dominic DeLay (M.F.A. film production Chapman University, B.A. Music Occidental College, and M.A. Theology and the Arts from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley). According to the folks at Grace, “…his work is funny, touching, and sometimes a little wild . . . with never a dull moment!” Donations go to his Christian film outreach and to Grace Church, located at 4427 Overland Avenue in Culver City.
