Recently declared candidate Claudia Vizcarra will officially kick-off her campaign for one of the three available seats on the Culver City School Board at an open house on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. The free event will take place at 4079 Coolidge Avenue. Community members are encouraged to come and meet the candidate and hear what makes her uniquely suited for the job of school board member. Ms. Vizcarra is looking forward to speaking with community members and sharing her vision for the school district.
Ms. Vizcarra already has earned the endorsement of many well respected current and former elected officials and community leaders. Culver City Vice Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, Culver City School Board Vice President Patricia Seiver, Culver City School Board Member Nancy Goldberg, former Culver City School Board President Barbara Honig, former School Board Member Stephen Schwartz, former Culver City Mayor Christopher Armenta, and former Culver City Mayor Gary Silbiger are some of those supporting her candidacy. Claudia has also been endorsed by CCFT, the Culver City teacher’s union, and ACE, the Culver City classified employees union.
The candidate currently is Deputy Chief of Staff for LAUSD School Board Vice-President Steve Zimmer where she manages a range of complex issues in the development of district-wide policies. In this capacity she has facilitated collaboration within diverse government, business and community organizations. Ms. Vizcarra has deep knowledge of the connection between board goals and classroom implementation and has developed curriculum. Possessing the skills of being bilingual and bi-cultural provides her with a stronger understanding of various segments of the community.
As an involved parent of two Culver City students, she understands the value of arts, science, sports and language programs and works to preserve and enhance them. She is an active member of PTA and serves on the English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC). Claudia is looking forward to bringing her experience, expertise and enthusiasm to the Culver City School Board.
