Got friends or family coming to town who would like to see the inner workings of a busy movie studio? Or are you just a film buff yourself? (count us in!) Then you’ll be happy to know that Sony Pictures Studios Annual Walking Tours are available to those who work or live in Culver City. Limit is four tickets per person (must show a valid picture ID with a Culver City address). Children over 12 are welcome. You can even enjoy lunch or a latte at the Museum Marketplace while you’re on the lot. Visit the Museum display and surf the Sony Pictures Online Museum. Pick up tickets at the Culver City Chamber of Commerce office, 6000 Sepulveda Blvd #1260 at Westfield Culver City during business hours Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tickets are valid September 1, 2013 through November 30, 2013. The 2-hour tour takes place throughout the day, Monday – Friday.
Found Animals invites you to “meet your match” on Saturday, September 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 4235 Sepulveda Blvd. (the site of their new Adopt & Shop location opening in 2014) for mobile pet adoptions – you’ll meet adoptable cats and dogs in your neighborhood. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ready to go home the same day. Visit their Facebook photo album to see the furry faces that will be available. (Photos of adoptables will be posted on 9/6/13). Pet adoptions in Culver City take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. If you can’t make it this weekend, the next adoption event will be held on September 21st.
Tuesday, September 6 will be Back to School Story Time at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library, with special guest reader Audrey Stevens, Director of the Office of Child Development for the Culver City Unified School District. Families should plan to join her as she reads some of her favorite stories and be prepared for a fun craft project, all taking place at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the Library, located at 4975 Overland Avenue.
Grace Lutheran Church members, their friends and families are invited to enjoy Rally Day this Sunday, September 8 at 12:30 pm. This will be a BBQ and potluck picnic in Carlson Park (Braddock & Motor). Participants are asked to bring a dish or beverage to share, a blanket or a couple of chairs to lounge on, and be in the mood to party!
Pacific Standard Time Presents: “Modern Architecture in L.A.” and no, it’s not just about Los Angeles. This is the latest Getty initiative celebrating Southern California’s contributions to post-World War II cultural life. This second phase specifically focuses on modern architecture and includes the Culver City based design firms of Eric Owen Moss and Thom Mayne! Both Eric Owen Moss and Thom Mayne are included in Culver City’s Art in Public Places Program for structures designated under “Architecture as Art” and commissioning permanent public artworks. You may notice streetlight pole banners installed throughout greater Los Angeles,(including select areas of Culver City adjacent to the Hayden Tract) that feature images of three post-war buildings, including a structure designed by Eric Owen Moss that is located on the corner of Hayden Avenue and National Blvd. in Culver City. Mark your calendars for Culver City’s Electronic Waste Round-up on Saturday, September 14th at the Exceptional Children’s Foundation, 8740 Washington Blvd. The Roundup takes place from 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., and the slogan of the day is “Drive Up, Drop Off, Drive Away…’ Items Accepted are Computers, Monitors, Printers, Scanners, Laptops, Modems, Televisions, VCRs, DVD Players, Radios & Stereos, Cassette Players (remember those?), CD Players, Phones & Systems, Fax Machines (whaaaaaat?), Cell Phones, PDAs, and Cables. Last month’s Fiesta La Ballona had beautiful weather, great music and attractions and terrific food. Not surprisingly, the Culver City Exchange Club’s Beer & Wine Garden was a sellout all three days/nights! Who knew??? Big applause to the committee, the volunteers and everyone who turned out to make the Fiesta such a great Party in the Park!
It’s perfect picnic weather, the Culver City Sister City’s Quarterly Membership Picnic is set for this Sunday, September 8 at Syd Kronenthal Park, 3459 McManus Avenue. (Non-members are also welcome to attend and enjoy the presentations as well) The “doors open” at 11:30 a.m. and the Quarterly Meeting begins at 12:30 with board introductions followed by the Kaizuka and Iksan City Exchange Reports plus a report by student Isabella Browning about attending the Youth Summit in San Antonio, Texas . That’s it! CCSCC will provide paper goods, if needed and will be bringing dessert – cookies & ice cream for sundaes. This is a BYO Picnic so you only need to prepare for yourself and not worry about what else to bring. If you feel you MUST share, you’re advised to PLEASE do not overdo it!
