LOCALmotion – Jozelle Smith

The Culver City Education Foundation’s annual gala, “Tribute to the Stars” isn’t until May 11, 2013, but if you want to help raise some funds for the Foundation in the meantime, the bidding for their Online Auction starts Tuesday, January 29th. As described by CCEF, “…this can be just in time for Valentine’s Day!” There will be all sorts of gift cards, services, art, and getaways offered, with auction proceeds going directly to CCEF’s teacher grant program, so register at www.biddingforgood.com and then visit the auction page at www.biddingforgood.com/cceftribute. This auction opens on January 29, 2013 and closes February 12, 2013. (And if you would like to donate to this auction, you can also do so on the web page.)
Saturday, February 2 at 8p.m. and Sunday February 3 at 1p.m. it’ll be Lounge Night at Grace Church. They’re promising a “cooooool” program of romantic standards and classic songs, Big Band to Soft Rock, all featuring terrific singers! Proceeds benefit Grace Diner, the Monday night dinner program for Grace’s “neighbors in need.” (…and it’s promised that the Sunday concert will finish well before Super Bowl time!) Grace Lutheran Church is located at 4427 Overland Avenue. Admission is by a voluntary donation.
Culver City Exchange Club Past President and Charter Member Bill Fecho suffered a slight stroke last week, but reports are that he’s doing fine. Member Oliver de la Torre’s 92 year old mother Denise passed away a little over a week ago. We remember Denise and late husband Ramon (“Ray”) fondly from their days as owners and operators (along with Oliver’s aunt Maria) of Jackson Market.
Have you always enjoyed Culver City’s annual Fiesta LaBallona? How about being a real part of making it happen? We know from experience how much fun it is to host a young visitor from another country, so here’s an opportunity to share in the experience yourself: Culver City Sister City members Karlo Silbiger and Allison Burns have agreed to chair the upcoming two-year cycle of welcoming/hosting/organizing and sending students to Kaizuka, Japan – our longest term sister city. Some of you may have forgotten about and are now ready to get involved in the hosting an adult while others would like to experience the joy of having an extra middle school age student in their home for about 10 days this summer. We all thrive on our ongoing relationships with our sister cities, and you are invited to welcome these young visitors into your home and/or send your children (or grandchildren) on a life-changing exchange visit. Visit www.culvercitysistercitycommittee.org to find out more!
