Park and Ride Gives Lots to Metro

SB 415, legislation that allows the California Transportation Commission to relinquish park-and ride lots associated with a state highway to a county transportation commission or regional transportation agency was signed by Governor Brown on Monday. Sept. 17.

“This bill simplifies the procedure that allows Caltrans to relinquish these lots to Metro and gives Los Angeles officials the opportunity to improve ridership in the Metro system,” said Senator Price. “This has the potential to increase revenue and improve traffic,” said Senator Price.

The bill, authored by Senator Curren Price (D-Los Angeles), is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).

It is necessary to allow the local agency to enter into agreement with Caltrans to take ownership and responsibility over the operation and maintenance of selected state-owned park and ride lots in Los Angeles County.

In doing so, this bill would allow Metro to make effective use of facilities and increase public transit ridership by rehabilitating the lots, many of which are in a state of disrepair and suffer from a lack of adequate maintenance.
