With 36 hours remaining in the current legislative session, the California State Senate is only a few votes away from banning single-use plastic bags – and the urgent action you take right now could make the difference.
Tell Sen. Curren Price to ban the single-use plastic bag by voting YES on AB 298.
We can’t afford to let another opportunity to ban single-use plastic bags pass us by. The last time California had the opportunity to ban the bag was in 2010. In the two years since the chemical and plastic industries spent millions to defeat the proposal, Californians have used about 24 billion plastic bags.
Assemblymember Julia Brownley’s “Single Use Carryout Bags Act” would phase out plastic bags in California grocery stores and large pharmacies starting in 2014 – but only if the State Senate passes the bill before the legislative session ends tomorrow.
Time is running out. Urge your state senator to vote YES on AB 298, because it’s time to finally phase out single-use plastic bags.
Getting rid of single-use plastic bags is a triple win for our ocean ecology, our urban communities, and California consumers. Pressure from the chemical industry and bag manufacturers stopped previous efforts to pass this law. But with your help, we can show the State Senate that Californians are eager to ban the bag.
