On Friday May 25, State Assembly Rep. Holly Mitchell (D – 47th Assembly District) stood with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles at their press conference in support of AB 2348, the bill she has authored which would expand a woman’s right to reproductive health care access.
Mitchell stated “I am proud to author AB 2348. It is a good bill that makes common sense.AB 2348 would increase birth control access by authorizing registered nurses in community clinics to dispense birth control under a standardized procedure. Simply put, after taking a routine health assessment, a registered nurse would be able to safely dispense birth control to the more than 90% of women who have no complicating factors. For the small percentage of women who have more complex health issues, registered nurses would refer them to a nurse practitioner or doctor for contraceptive care.”
Each month, 13,000 women in California are being turned away from clinics because of insufficient staffing. Mitchell believes “That is not right and California can do better. AB 2348 will help make that happen.”
As a part of her election campaign, Mitchell reached out to supporters saying “I am authoring this bill because I believe that every woman has a right to plan her own pregnancy and women deserve greater access, not less, to reproductive health care. But I can’t do this alone or without your support.”
