AVPA’s 30th Anniversary – Java Gala on June 7

Among the unique and important programs that the Culver City Unified School District offers is the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts – the AVPA.

This year, they will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary at the Java Gala on Sunday June 7, 2026 at the Wende Museum from 6 to 8 pm. As a performance, it’s not to missed, and as a fundraiser, it’s essential to keeping the lights on and the music playing.

Culver City High School’s Academy of Visual & Performing Arts (AVPA) was founded in 1996 through a grant from the state of California with major support from Sony Pictures Entertainment. The program offers after school classes, workshops, and programs in Schools of Theatre (Performance & Live Events), Visual Art, Film, Dance, and Music. Culver City HS also offers regular day classes in the same programs, most of which offer UC/CSU A-G credit. CTE (Career Technical Education) pathways are also offered in Theatre (Performance & Live Events), Film, Dance, and Music Technology.

Led by certificated teachers, additional professional teaching artists are brought in to teach workshops, classes, lead productions and exhibitions, or to work on projects with students.

Along with Culver City Unified School District, major funding is provided by the AVPA Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded and run by parent volunteers. Other major Sponsors & Partners include: Sony Pictures Entertainment, Culver City Education Foundation, Center Theatre Group, CCUSD Front & Center Theatre Collaborative, and the Wende Museum.
