Nowhere Organics (A Ghost Kitchen)

It’s National Food Week, and if that translates to National Cooking Week at your house, consider taking a break. There is likely at least one meal in the next few days that would be a great time to order in, and Nowhere Organics is the new Culver City take-out that you will be glad you discovered.

Nowhere Organics opened on Jasmine Avenue this past summer, and word has been spreading about the amazing dishes on offer. If you need any prompting (other than the huge stack of dishes in the sink,) it’s food that is both familiar and fresh, a bit of a surprise and still a great version of a classic.

The two qualities that make this a rave are ‘organic’ and ‘affordable.’ Nowhere Organics is top quality ingredients, expertly cooked and seasoned, for a price that will not challenge your budget. How are they able to offer such high quality at such low prices? It’s all take-out.

An easy lunch – grilled cheese and tomato soup, really next level. The tomato bisque is a delight; San Marzano tomatoes blended up with a touch of fresh basil. The grilled cheese is a sandwich for grown-ups, with roasted poblano chiles tucked into smoked gouda and melted jack cheese, on crunchy, buttery, grilled bread.

That’s enough, but if you have a houseful of hungry people, you have a lot of great options.

Simple but sensational; the nowhere burger is a feast. Wagyu beef, grilled to order with caramelized onions, tomato roulade, arugula, on a brioche bun. You cannot get a burger this good for this price anywhere else in town. And – we did mention it’s organic, right?

The pan-seared branzino (a delicious white fish that you might have seen on other menus) in a lemon butter reduction is ideally matched with sauteed spinach and roasted Campari tomatoes.

Beet salad is everything you might want in a salad and a bit more; roasted beets, walnuts, greens, fresh citrus and champagne vinagrette. There is also  a very California take on a French salad Nicoise; the organic baby gem lettuce, hard boiled eggs and green beans make a base for some beautiful seared ahi tuna. Not the cooked-and-canned tuna usually served with Nicoise but organic ahi.

Small sides are a treat unto themselves. The truffle mac & cheese is surprisingly light, considering there is cheddar, gouda and pecorino on the orecchiette pasta, and the Brussel sprouts are dressed with leeks and bacon, giving a crunchy green veggie a deep, rich flavor.

Portions are substantial, and you don’t have any extra space in the fridge right now, so think about what you’d like to share. Then, think about what you want to have all to yourself.

Nowhere Organics is a ‘ghost kitchen,’ a term that means we just cook here, you’ll have to eat it somewhere else. If you order through an app, or swing by to pick up, it’s one of the best meals you will have this week. Really – even THIS week.
