Keep an eye open for Channel 7; KABC reporter JJZ dropped into the Culver City High School Game Development classroom yesterday to do a feature on the program and esports team, including Game Development 1, Game Development 2, and Team Kairon, our national champion after school competitive esports team.
The founder of the “Game Dev Dojo” and teacher Mr. Kian Darien, and multiple student teams and alumni, were interviewed and showed off their team game projects, spoke about what it takes to build worlds, compete against other schools in CIF Smash Bros design characters, and level up from class projects to real-world experience.
Like CCUSD’s lauded language immersion, some students chose Culver City specifically for this program. One student has already been recruited into the industry by a game development studio, officially entering pro mode.
