Imhotep Coleman, a film production professor at West Los Angeles College, has been selected for an Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowship by the Television Academy Foundation.
Named in honor of the late Alex Trebek, longtime host of the hit quiz show Jeopardy!, the Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowships offer financial support to attendees of the Foundation’s annual Media Educators Conference.
The three-day conference, being held at the Television Academy’s North Hollywood campus in California Oct. 9-11, connects college classrooms with the television industry by providing media professors with curriculum-enhancing seminars on the latest in the art, science and business of television with prominent leaders in the industry.
The Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowships are made possible by a gift from the Harry & Judy Friedman Family Foundation.
He is one of 18 professors selected from colleges and universities nationwide for the 2024 fellowship program.
Coleman is a veteran assistant director of television, film and commercial projects. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America who has worked on such hit television shows as 9-1-1, Scandal and Southland.
Coleman’s journey in the world of television and motion pictures has been marked by unwavering dedication, creativity and a commitment to community enrichment. In recognition of his expertise and passion for nurturing new talent, Imhotep was elected as a board member of the DGA’s Training Program in January 2023.
One of Coleman’s most significant contributions to the industry is his role as the supervisor of the Urban Scholar Film Academy, a weekend program designed to empower high school youth in Inglewood and surrounding areas with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in the competitive film and television industry.
Coleman has been recognized by the Super Bowl LVI Legacy Program – Champions Live Here, which acknowledges grassroots organizations and nonprofits that are making a transformative impact in underserved communities across the Los Angeles region and named a Golden Globe Foundation community champion for the communal work he and his wife, Alexis, have created at their academic enrichment and tutoring center, Urban Scholar Academy.
