School Board Closes the Year; Kent Elected to Second Term as President, Ezidore as VP

 The CCUSD Board of Education used the Dec. 12 , 2023 to confirm Dr. Brian Lucas as the new Superintendent, and to change parliamentary positions on the board.  Paula Amezola finished her term as School Board President, and Dr. Kelly Kent was voted in as the new School Board President for the upcoming year. Dr. Kent is in her second term of office and this is her second turn as president.

She offered “In my first term as president, I made a commitment to spending 60% of board deliberations discussing student achievement. I recommit to that in my second presidency and look forward to our shared effort towards that goal.”

Triston Ezidore was voted in as vice president, At the age of 20, Ezidore not only becomes the youngest Vice President of a school board in California but also shatters barriers as the first Black man to assume a leadership role in the Culver City School Board since the districts inception in 1949.  Ezidore stated, “My colleagues elected me to serve as vice president of the Culver City School Board. I am humbled and honored for this opportunity.”

Stephanie Loredo was elected as clerk, Brian Guerrero as parliamentarian, and Ms. Amezola returned to a member at large. The Board thanked Ms. Amezola for her leadership this past year during some tumultuous times, and gave their full support to Dr. Kent and her colleagues in their new roles.
