Long in the planning, the Mobile Crisis Unit personnel were formally introduced at the City Council meeting on Dec. 11, 2023.
Tevis Barnes, Director of Housing and Human Services, introduced Dr. Dan Richardson, the Crisis Intervention Division Manager, head of the Mobile Crisis Unit, to provide an alternative response to mental health-related situations across Culver City, creating a service where police do not need to respond.
The unit, which has been in the planning stages since 2020, is scheduled to go live in January of 2024 with a mental health wellness fair.
The four-person team is Dr. Nicole Alexander, Mental Health Clinician; Ben Vu, Mental Health Specialist; Deshellia Jones, Case Manager and Dispatcher; and Robert Parga, Case Manager and Dispatcher.
