On Sunday, November 12, 2023, the day of Diwali, El Rincon hosted a Family Diwali event that was attended by 165 people with families from all Culver City schools. Rani Raja Productions turned the El Rincon cafetorium into a beautifully decorated hall. Kids created rangoli artwork, painted diyas, browsed cultural books, and enjoyed food from Samosa House Restaurant. Emcees Sarenna Sivakumaran (CCHS), Krishen Chandra (CCHS), and Amani Mehta (CCMS) emceed the culture show that featured students doing a Bharata Natyam dance, a book reading, jokes, trivia, and more Bollywood dance performances.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and is considered one of the holiest days for Hindus worldwide. Throughout the past 2 weeks, students did presentations in classrooms, El Rincon’s Arts and Innovation teacher Lisa Devanzo did rangoli projects in class, parents read Diwali books, El Rincon staff were treated to samples of Indian food, and more!
Special thanks to Yogi Verma, Radhika Fliegel, Nick Sivakumaran, Deepa Makhija, Kalayani Narayanan, Ameet Mehta, Sonia Malhotra, VK Shah. Dr. Jennifer Smith, Antoinette Stewart, El Rincon, Bloom Arts Foundation, and all the volunteers who helped make this a memorable evening for all of the families.
