With the posting of the agenda for the upcoming Culver City Council meeting on Sept. 11, 2023, an agenda item is listed that will authorize the city to make an offer for the property at 11029 Washington Boulevard; the Retting Gun Shop.
An offer of six and half million dollars requires approval by a four-fifths vote, as do all budgetary items, from the council. The proposal will also offer to cover the ‘closing costs,’ a real estate term for required transfer of deeds, title, and the expenses associated with property changing hands.
With the dozens and dozens of speakers who pleaded at the last council meeting on August 28 to keep the property from becoming another gun store, the council has moved with unusual speed to secure the purchase.
While the approval seems highly likely, the vote will be one closely watched on this coming Monday evening.
