Dr. Kenya Williams – New CCMS Principal

The CCUSD Board of Education has announced the hiring of Dr. Kenya Williams as the new principal of Culver City Middle School, effective July 10, 2023.

Williams most recently served as A-G Director for Los Angeles Unified School District, leading a multi-disciplinary team of professionals for in-person and virtual instruction programs and ensuring equity across local districts. She also serves on the instructional faculty at California State University – Dominguez Hills.

Prior to that, Williams served as Principal of Humanities and Harts Academy of Los Angeles in Harbor City, reducing the school’s chronic absenteeism by 5% and spearheading a $100,000 grant to design a state-of-the-art auditorium for the school and the community.

“Dr. Williams will be an outstanding asset to the students, staff and families of Culver City Middle School, where I know her expertise expertise in advancing equity and access will increase the academic achievement of all students,” said Superintendent Quoc Tran. “It is a pleasure to welcome her to the CCUSD Family, and we look forward to great things.”

Williams has also served as an Assistant Principal at both University Pathways Public Service Academy and Augustus F. Hawkins High School; and was a Curriculum Specialist in the Compton Unified School District.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts & Dance from California State University – Los Angeles and is an award-winning actress, dancer, singer, poet, and educational advocate. As a youth, she won an NAACP Award for best performance by a youth for her role as Addaperle in The Wiz. As an adult, she has guest starred on television shows such as “Moesha,” “The Parkers,” “The Shield,” “Touched by an Angel,” and had a recurring role on Disney’s “Even Stevens.” Williams earned a master’s degree in Teaching from USC and another master’s degree in Education from UCLA. She earned her doctorate in Education from USC.
