The Culver City community is invited to join in the celebration with multiple events that take place from November 12 to 20, 2022. This residency encourages community engagement and dialogue with the CONTRA-TIEMPO creative team.
CONTRA-TIEMPO and Helms Bakery District invite dancers of all ages, with or without experience, to witness and participate in the creation of ¡AZÚCAR!
Ana Maria Alvarez, Founding Artistic Director of CONTRA-TIEMPO, says “We are thrilled to be back at The Helms Bakery District. Culver City was my home and where the company was based in our early years, so this feels like a bit of a homecoming, after almost two decades of growing, touring, expanding the breadth and reach of our work. Our creative process is rooted in our relationships and engagement of our community. This work is still developing and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to ask questions, engage our bodies, practice our ancestral technologies together – dances and vibrations of the afro-latine diaspora – and to make collective discoveries about the work, engage in collective liberation practices and to play!”
