Pedestrian Fatality Highlights Rise in Freeway Deaths

A pedestrian was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle on the northbound 405 Freeway in Culver City Monday night, Feb. 28, 2022,  according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. on the northbound San Diego Freeway at the Marina Freeway in Culver City, prompting the closure of the HOV, first and second lanes, the CHP reports.

According to Officer Pepi of the West Los Angeles Office of the CHP, “Pedestrian deaths on freeways are a very common, almost daily occurrence.” The crash on Monday saw a pedestrian on the 405 killed by a motorcycle that was trying to avoid impact. 

“We get 911 calls, reports of pedestrians walking between lanes, people walking on the shoulder; it’s not rare.” He noted that the fatality on Monday was, sadly, not out of the ordinary.
