“Team Riley” Walk Raises $12,000 for Suicide Prevention

The “Team Riley” Suicide Prevention walk that started off at Culver City High School on April 24, 2021 saw 37 volunteers go the full 9 miles to raise more than $12,000 for Suicide Prevention Awareness.

Bridget McCarthy, Riley’s mother and the event organizer offered “Thanks to you, ‘Team Riley’ is the #1 fundraising Campus Walk team in Greater Los Angeles.”

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention confirmed that much of this funding will go towards risk assessment and follow up, a crucial element.  Suicide is currently the third leading cause of death among young people age 15 to 24.

McCarthy added “I want to send a special shout out to SAMOHI GSA and CULVER CITY HIGH LGBT clubs. I was so pleased by the support and representation of Riley’s community. I will be forever grateful. Beside the charitable benefits of the walk, we enjoyed meeting neighbors and new friends, your support meant so much.”
