This week’s interview in the series Art-Past-Present, as always co-hosted by Farrah Karapetian, features the Botswana-born, New York-based artist Meleko Mokgosi. Mokgosi, who works in a masterful painting style, meticulously plans his research-based projects on topics such as nationalism, post-colonialism and democracy in southern Africa.
Often taking Western history painting as a starting point, he puts the tradition upside down by offering complexity instead of stereotypes, and by asking pertinent questions instead of providing easy answers. Please note that this week’s interview is not on Wednesday but on Thursday.
Thursday, February 11, 12 p.m. Pacific Time: Art-Past-Present (6) with Meleko Mokgosi
