Kontrapunktus presents its first livestream concert – The Red Priest: A Portrait of Antonio Vivaldi on January 9, 2021 at 7:00 pm PST
Kontrapunktus (“Counterpoint” in Latin) is a chamber orchestra comprised of young, classically trained musicians who perform a unique Baroque music repertoire intended to captivate and inspire people from all walks through their exemplary talent and sublime artistry. They have been a part of Culver City’s musical performance presentations with local concerts in both 2018 and 2019. An April concert was cancelled in 2020, but now they have the advantage of playing for you in your own home.
For their first live stream event, they will premier “The Red Priest,” a special performance of six profoundly exquisite concertos by Italian Baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi, that present his genius in a transcendent light. Our program is a departure from his familiar “Four Seasons” and showcases the tapestry of the violin within the context of a musical offering that is nuanced, intimate, and compelling.
One of the goals of the group is working so that “the growth of our success will help others to re-imagine the possibilities of their musical talents in the context of classical music so that their newly discovered appreciation for classical music can then be passed on to future generations.”
The performers of this program are some of the finest young classical musicians in the world who hail from the Colburn School, the Juilliard School and the USC Thornton School of Music. They include:
Alena Hove – Concertmaster
Tiffany Kang – Second Principal Violin
Mina Hong – Violin
Haesol Lee – Violin
Rachyl Martinez – Viola
Osheen Manukyan – Cello
Marlon Martibnez- Double Bass
Arthur Omura – Harpsichord
Joshua Elmore – Bassoon
