Ambulances Wait Hours- LA County Doubles COVID Caseload

Los Angeles County Public Health officials reported 12,488 new cases and 91 additional deaths from COVID on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2021. A total of 7,544 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized with the virus, with 21% of those patients needing intensive care, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health; a very small decrease from the 7,627 patients reported on Saturday.

The case load has doubled in the past month, with county totals since March of 2020 currently standing at 818,639 cases and 10,773 deaths.

County hospitals are still absolutely overwhelmed, with ambulances waiting up to eight hours to off-load patients, leading to a shortage of emergency medical personnel and longer 911 response times.
