Culver City FD Knocks Down Brush Fire – Arson Suspect in Custody

On July 1, 2020, at 11:30 am, the Culver City Police Department received a radio call of a brush fire in the 9500 block of Jefferson Blvd. The hillside area near Culver City Bill Botts Park was engulfed in flames, and the Culver City Fire Department also responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The many business along this stretch of Jefferson were not in danger. 

While on scene, officers observed a suspicious subject leaving the area who was ultimately detained. A witness positively identified the subject, later identified as Brice Piller as the individual who ignited the fire. Piller, a 33-year old transient was placed under arrest for PC 451 (Arson).

Approximately one acre of hillside was damaged as a result of the fire. There were no reported injuries or structural damage to any neighboring businesses or dwellings.
