It’s official – the Fiesta La Ballona is cancelled for this year.
While a previous statement from City Manager John Nachbar offered that cancellation was to be expected, the final word has come out ahead of the committee meeting scheduled for June.
From the city – “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent Los Angeles County Public Health orders regarding large gatherings, the City of Culver City has determined it must cancel this year’s Fiesta La Ballona. This event was scheduled to be held during the weekend of August 21-23, 2020 at Veterans Memorial Park, at 4117 Overland Avenue in Culver City.
“Although COVID-19 safety precautions will keep us from holding this year’s traditional Fiesta La Ballona, a virtual experience is in the works to make sure everyone is still able to enjoy some of the fun and history of this community favorite!”, said Culver City Mayor Göran Eriksson.
Historically, Fiesta La Ballona – Culver City’s “Party in the Park”- is an annual community event, which regularly welcomes over 30,000 guests. This spectacular summer festival features live performances, carnival rides and games, a beer and wine garden, food trucks, a food court and a vendor village showcasing local organizations and artisan wares. Culver City hopes to bring back this event in the future.”
So, while those are 30,000 risks for infection that we won’t be risking, those are also 30,000 friends who will be missed.
