Council Approves Raimi + Associates as Consultants for General Plan Update

Stepping out of the rest of the competition, Raimi + Associates will be taking on the General Plan Update.

Founded in 2006 in Berkeley, Raimi +Associates offers consulting services with a focus on healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities. Their professional history includes work on General Plans, comprehensive plans for cities and counties, corridor and downtown plans, zoning codes and design guidelines, health policy, climate action plans, social research, and program evaluation.

In addition to their base in Berkeley, they also have offices in Los Angeles and Riverside. They won a National Planning Excellence Award from the American Planing Association in 2015 for “Emerging Planning and Deign Firm.”

The City issued the General Plan Update Services Request for Proposals for the project in April 2018 and received nine proposals. City staff and City Council’s GPU Subcommittee then reviewed and evaluated them. Based on proposal scores, a panel of City staff joined by Mayor Small interviewed the four highest scoring teams in October 2018.  City Council then interviewed the two highest scoring teams on January 24, 2019.

City Council unanimously selected the Raimi + Associates team to perform GPU services at a council meeting on January 28, 2019.

The process of updating the General Plan itself is a collaborative, multi-year effort.

The public side of the project will kick off in Spring 2019 after City staff and the consultants complete a public engagement plan. The process of updating the General Plan itself is a collaborative, multi-year effort.
