After years of discussion, planning and preparation, the Culver-Palms Y is happy to announce that construction is happening! Very soon a complete locker room and lobby remodel will be underway. The locker rooms will be receiving all new fixtures, flooring, etc. The lobby will be reimagined to provide more space and ease the flow of traffic. While the community awaits the completed product, here is the necessary information to continue to enjoy all that the Y has to offer during the construction process.
The pool will remain open during construction (aside from the annual scheduled closure in late December). A wall will be put up on the pool deck along the locker room entrances to keep debris from entering the pool area.
Beginning later this week, December 6th, the locker rooms and lobby will be closed.
The following will be located on the pool deck during construction for your convenience: An open shower (for rinsing off only), changing stalls, and a small amount of lockers to store belongings during your swim. Please note that full showers will need to take place at home and not at the YMCA during construction.
During the closure, the pool will be entered through the current emergency exit door that borders the outdoor walkway. This entrance/exit will be staffed by a YMCA staff member, so be sure to bring your YMCA key tag to enter!
Also during the closure, the entrance to the rest of the facility will be through the current emergency exit door located near the corner of the main driveway and Sepulveda Blvd.
Since the locker rooms will be closed, the only restrooms on site will be the ones in the facility near the fitness center. For our swim lesson participants, please arrive early to allow time for your children to use the restroom prior to the beginning of their swim lesson. If your child needs to use the restroom during a swim lesson, you will need to walk with them out of the pool area, down the walkway outside, and into the facility through the temporary entrance.
Giving yourself an extra 10 or 15 minutes to negotiate the challenges will make it easy to use the Y as per usual during the construction.
