CC Rotary Brings the Hokey Old Pokey to Fiesta La Ballona for Old Fashioned Fun and Fundraising

FiestaPokey511-Medium1Culver City’s annual FiestaLa Ballona August 28-30 at Veteran’s Park promises a weekend of free musical entertainment, a beer garden and a bit of shenanigans from local Rotarians.Traditionally, the Culver City Rotary is on hand as one of the local sponsors, an event produced by the City of Culver City. Once again, Rotary is resurrecting the “Pokey.”

To get out of the Pokey donate or have a friend donate to the Culver City Schools Backpack Program.  Monies collected will buy food and school supplies for needy CCUSD children.  “Stuff the Pokey” with food!  Each Friday backpacks are given to needy children determined by school staff.  The backpacks may provide the only food they have for the entire weekend.

Bring to the fiesta and Stuff the Pokey:  Pudding Cups, Chocolate and Vanilla, Shelf Stable Milk, Macaroni and Cheese, Cup Noodles, Peanut Butter  (12 or 16 oz. plastic jars), Granola and Cereal Bars, Fruit Cups (in individual serving containers), Oatmeal (in individual serving packets), Canned Beef Stew, Meat Pasta (pop-top cans), Wrapped Rolls of Crackers (e.g. Ritz), Breakfast Cereals in Individual Serving Size Bowls or Boxes.

Stop by and visit local Rotarians, learn about the Club, and if you’re lucky, you won’t end up in the Pokey. The Culver City Rotary folks will be next to the music stage and beer garden. You can find out more about the Rotary Club, get to know your neighbors, help build the community and make friends at the Culver City Rotary Club, which has been giving back to the community since 1930.
